Dr Günther von Bünau was born in Germany but moved to Ireland in his early twenties and loved the country. He returned to study Medicine in Göttingen, Germany and subsequently was trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the German system practising as “Oberarzt” until 2006. Günther returned to Ireland in 2006 and was admitted to the specialist register for Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Ireland shortly afterwards.
Dr von Bünau was appointed a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist for the Coombe Hospital as well as the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Tallaght in the November 2008.
Günther has a special interest in babies presenting as breech position and has implemented a service in the Coombe Hospital which has resulted in significant numbers of women having vaginal deliveries. This is because their babies have been turned from breech to cephalic position thus allowing safe vaginal birth.
