She provides practical help and advice to families with breastfeeding concerns, immediately after birth or at any stage over the course of breastfeeding.
Nicola has over 20 years’ experience working with new mothers, firstly as a nurse in Crumlin Children’s Hospital and then at the neonatal unit of the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital. She also trained as a breastfeeding counsellor with Cuidiu.
She became an IBCLC in 2005 and now teaches mums-to-be about breastfeeding before they have their babies, and provides one-on-one support afterwards.
Nicola also facilitates seminars and updates for health professionals on breastfeeding and is on the National Council of the Association of Lactation Consultants in Ireland (ALCI). Nicola is mother to five children.
One of the things I love most about being a lactation consultant (professional breastfeeding specialist) is that I get to see small babies every day. I love babies! I never cease to be amazed at how incredible and beautifully unique they all are. The other amazing thing is that babies come ready made with an instinct for breastfeeding. In all our preparation for birth and breastfeeding, it’s easy to forget that most babies are born knowing how to breastfeed.”
